Christmas Cactus:a remembrance of Beate Caspari-Rosen
Beate Caspari-Rosen, MD, (1910--1995) had a Christmas Cactus that bloomed annually. When we inherited it after my mother's death, the plant was about 10 years old. The cactus is in full-bloom now and is a living remembrance of one so dear to me. At about 25 years of age the plant, which she cared for an enjoyed not least because it was beautiful but also the seemingly static sleep state would erupt always at the same time of year into a fantastic display of color, the flowers shapes so unusual too.
